2014 Saving Goal

This year I wanted to try to challenge myself with a new years old goal that would help us save money so that we can go back to Disneyland this summer. We went last summer and had a great time! We have family in California so it is an even better excuse to go more often. I decided that I was going to aim to spend $75 a week on groceries for our family of 3- so $3.57 per person per day. Right now I spend about $100 a month so this will save us $25 a month or $300 this year. This would include all tolietries including diapers (hopefully not for much longer) and would have to cater to my husbands dietary needs. I also wanted to make sure that I kept our meals healthy. I plan on doing this by shopping store sales and using coupons. If I am under the $75 I will put any extra money into a jar. I also will use that money if I end up going over one week. This first week I budgeted myself an extra $10 since most of my stockpile is low from Christmas. For the most part I only shop at Safeway or Fred Meyers and Target. I do not like dricing to a million different stores for different deals as there are not many stores nearby.

Here is how the first week ended up- I shopped at Walmart (not a typical stop but was visiting my parents), Target, and Safeway. I spent $53.09 at Walmart, $25.73 at Safeway and $10.42 at Target for a total of $89.42 ($4.24 over)
